The chief minister and his/her council of ministers are appointed by Karnataka’s constitutional head, the governor. The seat of Karnataka’s state legislature, the Vidhan Soudha, is aptly located in its state capital, Bangalore. There are three prime political parties in Karnataka, the Indian National Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal Secular. Presently, the BJP is the ruling party of Karnataka, with B. S. Yediyurappa as the elected chief minister of the state.
