The democratically elected, Government of Karnataka has supreme authority over the state’s 30 districts. The chief minister and his/her council of ministers are appointed by Karnataka’s constitutional head, the governor. The bicameral state legislature of Karnataka consists of Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.
The seat of Karnataka’s state legislature, the Vidhan Soudha, is aptly located in its state capital, Bangalore. There are three prime political parties in Karnataka, the Indian National Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal Secular. Presently, the BJP is the ruling party of Karnataka, with B. S. Yediyurappa as the elected chief minister of the state.
The Government of Karnataka has launched many people friendly programs such as the Anna Bhagya, Ksheera Bhagya, Runamukta Bhagya and Vidya Sira. The state government has also announced a new free laptop scheme under which students enrolling at government colleges in the year 2017-18 will receive free laptops.
