The Gruha Arogya Yojana is Karnataka’s flagship public health programme. It takes screening and treatment for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) to people’s homes. Launched in October 2024, the Gruha Arogya Scheme began as a pilot in Kolar district. It has since been extended to every district in the state.

Aim of Gruha Arogya Yojana, Karnataka
The main goal of the Gruha Arogya Yojana is to detect NCDs early, before they cause serious complications or premature death. Many people in Karnataka, especially in rural areas, skip check-ups because of distance, cost or fear. By sending trained health workers to each household, the Gruha Arogya Scheme removes those barriers. It also supports the national target of cutting premature NCD deaths by one-third by 2030

Important aspects of the Scheme
The Gruha Arogya Scheme works in phases. The first phase is door-to-door screening and counselling. The second focuses on follow-up and long-term management of diagnosed patients. The state has approved funds for medicines and equipment such as strips and lancets for diabetes testing, pap smear kits, colposcopy tools, diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy screening, and sleep apnoea diagnostic machines. Patients needing specialised care are referred onward, and those eligible can use the Ayushman Bharat-Arogya Karnataka health card. The initial plan was to screen over three crore people aged 30 and above.
