One of the latest inventions by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment is the E Shram card. This card is considered the gateway for all welfare schemes through a single card—a single number. The ministry prioritises welfare and social security for labourers, employees, and gig workers in the unorganised sector. For the last few years, the ministry has launched several new initiatives aimed at helping these workers.
What is an E Shram card?
E Shram card is a digital ID proof with a UAN number issued by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment once an individual registers with the ministry website for E Shram with his/ her name, Aadhar number, and Aadhar-linked mobile number.
Step by Step guide to register for E Shram card
All employees from the unorganised sector, gig workers serving in the country, are eligible to register for E Shram. Here is a step-by-step guide to joining the country’s largest labour welfare movement.
- Visit the website of the ministry. Click here to start self-registration.
- Once you enter your Aadhar-linked mobile number and captcha, you will be directed to the registration page, where you need to fill in all the personal details.
Only those between 16 and 59 are eligible to apply. Members of PF and ESIC do not qualify for registration.
How to use the E Shram Card
After successful registration, the candidates can avail themselves of the portal’s various services. These services include
- My schemes: This category allows you to check your eligibility for various government schemes. You can provide your age, income, and educational qualification, and suitable government schemes will be displayed. You can apply online.
- Skill Training: If the candidates require any training, they can apply for the course of their choice. The training is available online and is free.
- Apprenticeship: The apprenticeship is also provided for graduates, diploma holders, ITI certificate holders, and others based on the E Shram card. They need to apply through the dedicated website launched by the ministry in this regard.
- Career services: The E Shram portal also provides career services for cardholders. This website has provisions for registering job providers and seekers and for career advancement programs.
Pension scheme
The E Shram card holders are eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana. Only employees from the unorganised sector are eligible for this. Those between 18 and 40 are eligible for enrolment in this pension scheme. Those whose income is above 15,000 per month are ineligible for registration.
One of the significant features of this scheme is that under this scheme, the beneficiary will get a minimum Rs. 3,000 monthly pension once he reaches 60 years. The central government will make a matching contribution for the beneficiary. For more information and registration, please click here.
Pension for traders
It is one of the unique schemes launched by the Central government. Self-employed, retail shop owners, and other business owners can enrol in this scheme.
