Karnataka is the hub of higher education, especially in medicine and engineering. The seats available in engineering colleges of Karnataka are filled through ‘The Karnataka Examination Authority’ (KEA). The nodal agency holding the KCET, requested the students to visit KEA WEBSITE at least twice in a day (morning and evening) to get latest updates about the examination, admission process, seat allotment, etc. Here is all you need to know about KCET 2024: a step-by-step guide on how to apply, eligibility criteria, syllabus, exam pattern, etc.
Exams and seat allocation that determine the seats for higher education in Karnataka are
- Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA)
- All India merit seats in the private unaided engineering colleges through COMEDK UGET
- The management of the respective private engineering colleges fills management quota seats.
Note: 5% Supernumerary free quota seats in all the engineering colleges as prescribed by the AICTE is filled up by the KEA through CET ranking only.
About Karnataka Common Entrance Test
The state run ‘Karnataka Examination Authority’ conducts the ‘Karnataka Common Entrance Test,’ (KCET). Students studying in Karnataka, Kannada students residing in the border areas and outside Karnataka are eligible to apply.
Through KCET, government quota engineering seats in private colleges, government colleges, government quota seats in pharma colleges, government seats in government pharma colleges, and agriculture and veterinary science will be allocated to students.

KCET 2024 will be held on April 18th and 19th across Karnataka. According to the latest announcement by the KEA, February 20th is the last date to apply, and February 23rd before 5.30 pm is the last date for paying the prescribed fee.

According to the KEA notification, the question papers of the Common Entrance Test (CET) will be based on the First and Second PUC syllabus prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State.

KCET 2024 Eligibility criteria
According to the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) notification on KCET 2024, only those studying in the science stream can apply for the various courses. Also, the eligibility criteria fixed by various affiliation institutes (AICTE, NMC, NDC, ICAR) must be fulfilled by the candidates to apply and get a ranking.

Karnataka Common Entrance Test 2024 Exam pattern
According to the KEA notification, for engineering/ technology courses, students should appear for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics examinations. For Farm Science courses (B.Sc. Agriculture, Sericulture, Horticulture, etc), students should appear for PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology). Students aspiring for Bachelor of Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, Naturopathy & Yoga, and B.SC (Nursing) should appear for PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology). For B-Pharma, 2nd Year B.Pharm, Pharm-D students should take up PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths).
PU marks will form the basis for admission to B.P.T., B.Sc. Allied Health Sciences and BPO courses. However, students must compulsorily register for CET-2024, fill out the application and pay the fees to participate in counselling.
In addition, the KCET 2024 exam pattern will follow a multiple-choice format, with each subject carrying a maximum of 60 marks. While each question carries one mark, however, there will not be a negative marking for incorrect answers.

Seat Matrix & Fee structure
The state government and the private medical and engineering colleges association have yet to decide on the fee structure for the various courses. Hence, the fee structure will likely be announced after the Lok Sabha elections in April/ May.
Important information to be remembered
- In Karnataka, all government quota seats in engineering, architecture, pharma, agriculture, veterinary sciences, and horticulture are filled up through KEA only.
- Also, this year, the State Examination Board will conduct II PUC final examinations thrice to ensure that students will be able to improve their marks.
- The CET rank list is prepared based on the various guidelines notified by the regulatory authorities.
