The state government has launched the Gruha Arogya Scheme, Karnataka 2024, for the screening of non-communicable diseases. Also known as the Gruha Arogya Yojana, the programme brings health care right to the doorstep of the people of Karnataka. It also extends beyond disease screening and ensures free medicines to the affected.

The aim of Gruha Arogya, Karnataka

The main objective of the Gruha Arogya Scheme, Karnataka, is to detect diseases early. It aims to prevent premature death and other complications. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes mellitus, hypertension, breast, cervical, and oral cancers, etc., are screened for further treatment. The scheme also checks for symptoms of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and other mental health conditions. Free medicines will also be provided for deserving cases.

  • Free medicines will be provided to those who need them, shouldering the burden of those who can’t afford the treatment. This scheme is a boon to the financially underprivileged. 
  • Upon detection of diseases, people can head to the Ayushman Arogya Mandir for specialised treatment

Important features of the Gruha Arogya Yojana, Karnataka

  • The Gruha Arogya Yojana, Karnataka, is one of the largest healthcare initiatives in the state, covering all its citizens.
  • The Karnataka state government has intended to allot Rs 92.75 crore for the programme.
  • The programme aims to screen about  3,03,81,750 people above thirty years of age.
  • Community Health and Primary Health Care officers and ASHAs will visit every home in the respective areas on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays for free health screening and counselling.
  • Free medicines will also be provided as a part of the treatment.
  • To follow up on the treatment, medical officers at the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs conduct monthly check-ups at medical camps.
