In Karnataka, once students clear the Class X board exam, the next step is ‘Pre University College’ or PU College. This is a 2-years course that all students must complete before they can embark on any other professional course or a degree course. The 2-year course has a major board exam at the end of the second year.

Core subjects Offered by PU Colleges In Karnataka
Students enrolling in a PU college can choose between three streams: Arts or Humanities, Commerce and Science. Irrespective of the stream, students must choose 4 core subjects, English and a second language.
The languages options available to students include Hindi, Kannada, Urdu, Sanskrit, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, German, French and Arabic.
Apart from your personal preference, your class X score also affects your choice of subjects. The science stream has the highest cut off while the art has the lowest cut-off. Students who take science subjects can later change their minds and opt for commerce for arts subjects but the reverse is not possible.
