The Kuvempu University is an upcoming university that was established in the year of 1987. Located in the picturesque town of Shimoga in Karnataka, the university boasts of a distinctive and different academic profile that blends modern spirit with a full-fledged commitment to rural policy.
The University has a vibrant and exciting student life; with regular seminars, symposia, guest lectures and workshops every semester. The University has an updated and upgraded syllabus that focuses on critical thinking to bring about a change in the society and induce a modern approach to it. The courses offered are diverse in nature and are focussed to solve various issues that plague the contemporary society.
The campus is spread across an area of nearly 230 acres and is titled Jnana Sahyadri is located approximately 28 kms from Shimoga and 18 kms from the industrial town of Bhadravathi, at a place known as Shankaraghatta.
What Does it Offer?
The University has over 40 graduate and post graduate departments along the lines of Science, Arts, Law, Commerce and Education. It offers 47 Post-Graduate, four Post Graduate Diploma and one Undergraduate programmes.
There are over 80 colleges that are affiliated with the Kuvempu University. It comprises of three constituent colleges; of which one is autonomous and an individual autonomous college. The University also has one B.P.Ed. college and 17 B.Ed. colleges under its wing, which cover the 2 districts of Shimoga, and Chikmagalur. It also has a Post-Graduate centre at Kadur.

Admission to the university is centralized and it follows all the necessary guidelines with regards to the admission and examination set by the central and state educational departments. The University offers separate accommodation for boys and girls and one exclusively for research scholars. It is also equipped with a well-stocked library, medical centre and state-of-the-art indoor sports complex and gymnasium.
Research & Grants
The Kuvempu University also offers several research based programs at the M.Phil and PhD levels across a wide variety of disciplines. Candidates can be admitted to those programs according to their main branch of study. The university is well supported by grants and funds by the UGC and other national organizations.
