Manipal University, originally established as the Manipal Academy for Higher Research, was the first ever private university to be granted deemed university status by the Government of India in the year 1993. The university is currently home to over 25,000 students from over 50 countries studying here for various programs in the 20 constituent institutions of the university.
Founded by Dr. Tonse Madhava Anantha Pai way back in the year 1953, the university has grown from strength to strength and has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certification owing to its excellent standard of teaching. Manipal University has its main campus in the city of Manipal, Udupi, and several other campuses in Bangalore, Malaysia, Dubai and in the Caribbean island of Antigua.

The University boasts of the best infrastructure for its students and staff with centrally air-conditioned lecture halls. The main block has three conference halls that can seat up to 250 students at a time.Their dining halls with attached kitchens offer lip-smacking Indian and international cuisines.
An MIT Innovation Lab coupled with a Simulation Lab aims to promote innovation and learning, a first of its kind for any Indian private university. There are several play courts for different sports located on campus, and separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls. Manipal University has some of the best libraries in the Asian Region that boasts of a huge number of books, journal, research papers and periodicals that any student can access at any point of time.
Research and Grants in Manipal University
The deemed university is at the forefront of research and innovation with a one of a kind MIT Innovation Lab and Simulation Lab. The MIT Innovation Lab labs focus on several research programs in the areas of nanotechnology, VLSI design, Ad Hoc networks, nuclear engineering and many more. The sole aim of the centre is to facilitate research and provide seed money and resources for start-ups by students.
The Medical Simulation centre has mannequins for its students of the department of health sciences to understand and ideate about several medical issues and provide necessary solutions.
The Who’s Who of Manipal University
Although initially started by Dr. T.A. Pai, his son Dr. Ramdas M. Pai is now the Chancellor of the University. Dr. H.S. Bhallal is the Pro-chancellor and Dr. K. Ramanarayanan is the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
