
Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) has a reputed place in the medical academic history of Karnataka. It was established as a private medical college by Mysore Educational Society in the year of 1955.
The founders of the society were Dr. R. Shivaram, Dr. B.K. Narayana Rao, Dr. Mekhri and Dr. B.V. Ramaswamy. In 1957, they handed it over to Government of Mysore and it got affiliated with University of Mysore. Later on it came under Bangalore University. From 1996 onwards it is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Infrastructure and Facilities
Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute provides excellent infrastructure facilities for students.
This medical college in Bangalore has a 2290 square feet two floor central library with more than 120 Indian and Foreign Journals. It has digital library facility with Web Opac. It has well equipped modern class rooms, lab facility with modern gadgets and air conditioned auditorium for conducting conferences and seminars.
The college provides excellent opportunities for the student’s extracurricular activities. College conducts “COBALT SKIES” one of the biggest college festivals in Bangalore including competitions in arts and sports. As part of it “PANACEA” the biggest medical fest of South India is conducted in which students from all most all reputed medical colleges in South India participates.
“CHRYSALIS” is the college festival for Bangalore Medical College students only. It conducts intra-collegiate competitions for different batches of students. This sports wing of college organizes various intra college athletic, football, cricket, volley ball, table tennis and many other indoor games e.g. carom , chess, etc.
Hostel Facilities
The college has separate hostel facility for both male and female students. It has spacious rooms, visitor rooms, laundry, mess with hygienic food etc.
Eligibility for admission
The students who are applying for MBBS should have the following eligibilities:
- Candidate should be 17 years of age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
- Applicants from outside Karnataka must get eligibility certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
- Candidates of minority status should have Tulu speaking certificate from appropriate authorities.
For General Category (GC) Candidate
A candidate must have passed P.U.C. II year or 10+2 equivalent examination recognized by RGUHS securing at least 50% marks in Chemistry, Biology and Physics combined together and 50% marks in either of the Entrance Test that includes:
- Common Entrance Test (CET)
- Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK)
- Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority (KRLM)
- All India Entrance Test (AIET)
For Scheduled Cast (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Other Backward Community (OBC) Candidate
A candidate must have passed P.U.C II year or 10+2 equivalent examination recognized by RGUHS securing at least 40% marks in Chemistry, Physics and Biology combined together and 50% marks in either of the Entrance Test that includes:
- Karnataka Religious and Linguistic Minority (KRLM)
- Common Entrance Test (CET)
- Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK)
- All India Entrance Test (AIET)
