Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple – Overview
Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple is located in Shamanur village of Davangere district of Karnataka. This temple is dedicated to Sri Hanuman, the monkey deity, who helped Sri Rama during his quest to find and recover his Wife Seetha from the demon Ravana. Hanuman or Anjaneya has many temples in Karnataka and this temple is like a flagship temple.
This temple and the village of Shamanur go back at least 800 years in history. Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple is a major tourist spot in Davangere.
The temple was renovated in the Dravidian temple style in the year 2000 with monetary contributions from the people of Shamanur and devotees elsewhere. It was inaugurated by Dr. Shivmurthy Shivacharya swamiji of Taralabalu Jagadguru Brihanmath, Sirigere.
How to Get to Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple
Davangere can be reached by bus or train. It has a railway station. From Davangere Railway Station, local bus service can be used to reach Shamanur. Saturdays are special Puja days in Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple. Every year, a three day Car Festival or Rathotsava is held from the 10th day after Maha Shiva Rathri. This is the best time to visit the place.
