Located at a distance of 40 kilometers from the city of Bengaluru, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) popularly called the Bangalore International Airport is spread over 4000 acres of land. Opened in 2008 this airport is named after the founder of Bangalore, Kempe Gowda. The Bangalore International Airport recently became a fully solar-powered airport and the first of its kind in Karnataka. This airport also boasts of becoming the first airport in India that's totally Aadhaar enabled which has a biometric boarding system.

With a growth rate of 22.5% per annum, the KIA is in the process of upgrading its runway to increase air traffic movements. The work of the second runway which is in progress is expected to be completed by 2019 September. No matter what the weather condition is this new runway would deal with all kinds of aircrafts including A380. KIA is the third busiest airport in the country and ranks 35th in Asia.
