The reasons for delay range from land hurdles to a shortage of funds. These projects are essential to introduce new trains, maintain punctuality for train schedules and shorten travel time by trains.

191 km new line between Tumakuru- Chitradurga and Davanagere
- Project sanctioned in: 2011-2012
- Sanctioning cost: Rs 913 crore
- Revised estimated cost: Rs 1,801 crore
- Targeted project deadline: March 2025
- Status: Project is still in Phase 1 with 65% of earthwork, 20% ROB, 60%RUB and 60% minor bridge work completed.
- Reason for delay: 1,968 acres of the total 2,478 acres allocated to the project yet to be handed over to the railways. Stage II forest clearance for 51.56 acres was also not issued.
