Set up in August 1979, Bangalore Institute of Technology is a leading institution of engineering education in Karnataka. The very first computer science and engineering degree in Karnataka was instituted in the Bangalore Institute of Technology.

The library on campus is well-stocked with over 49,000 volumes of literature pertaining to every field and discipline of study in engineering. The library also houses a digital collection and a book bank for students. A massive auditorium that can seat 1200 students comfortably hosts numerous congregations of thinkers and speakers. A co-operative society, canteen and seminar hall round up the facilities at Bangalore Institute of Technology.
The college not only promotes education but emphasizes on extra-curricular activities like sports and cultural activities that promote holistic development in students. Separate hostel facilities for boys and girls enrolled in the college provide a home away from home for outstation students.
