In 2010, 180 engineering colleges in Karnataka had 41,341 seats, of which 8,067 seats remained vacant, that is a whopping 19.5%. One of the reasons for seats not to be taken is because of the quality of education imparted in certain colleges.
Students are brand concious, they know graduating from good colleges is important.
People working and studying is becoming popular in India. For those who work evening college is the only option but not very good courses were available in evening colleges. Now serious professional courses like Engineering are available in the evenings.
In 2010, All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) agreed to for evening batches in Engineering colleges. In Karnataka 8 colleges went for evening batches.
