Talakad

Talakad, in Chamarajanagar district near Mysore, is one of Karnataka’s most intriguing historical sites: an ancient town where more than 30 temples lie partially buried under sand dunes along the Kaveri. Local legend attributes the burial to a curse laid on the Wadiyar dynasty, and the site draws visitors as much for this story as for its surviving shrines, including the Vaidyanatheswara Temple. Every 12 years, the Panchalinga Darshana festival draws pilgrims to the temples that re-emerge from the sand. Browse the articles below for Talakad’s legend, temples, and sightseeing.
