Nationwide Ranking Of Crops Grown In Karnataka 2023

It is a known fact that Karnataka is the privileged destination in India for agriculture, agri-business and food processing industry with immense raw material base, skilled workforce and strong supporting ecosystem. Here is the list of crops grown in Karnataka and their nationwide ranking for 2023.

Major crop patterns in Karnataka

The crops grown in Karnataka can be classified as below.

Food crops 

Food crops in Karnataka consist of paddy, ragi, maize, pulses and millets.

Commercial crops

Commercial crops in the state are sugarcane, cotton, tobacco and mulberry.

Oilseeds 

Oilseeds consist of Groundnut, sesame and sunflower in the state.

Plantation crops

Plantation crops like coffee, coconut, arecanut, rubber and banana are important crops in Karnataka.

Apart from the above-mentioned crops, horticultural crops and floriculture are also grown in the state of Karnataka.

Karnataka ranks second in the country for its horticulture production and hence is remarkable. Of the total income of the state, horticulture generates about 40% of the total income. 

Among all other states of India, Karnataka is noted for its highest raw silk production.

Ranking of main crops of Karnataka

Rice, ragi, jowar, maize and pulses apart from oil seeds and cash crops form the major crops of Karnataka. The state also produces cashews, coconuts, cardamoms, chilies, cotton, sugar cane and tobacco. According to the nationwide ranking of crops grown in Karnataka in 2023, coffee, silk, ragi, green chilli, sunflower, tamarind, arecanut and capsicum rank first. Tomato, coconut and sapota rank second while pomegranate, pineapple, papaya, watermelon and onion rank third in the nation.
