Mandya
Established in the year 1939, Mandya lies in the state of Karnataka in India. It's also known as Sakkare Nadu which means the city of sugar because this region is one of the biggest producers of sugar in India. The economy of the city depends mainly on sugar factories. The rivers Kaveri, Shimsha, Hemavati, and Lokapavani are the four major rivers that flow through the city. Mandya has gained itself a prominent place in the history of India, having been through the hands of different kingdoms like the Ganga dynasty, Cholas, Vijayanagara, and Hoysala followed by the rule of Tipu Sultan and the British. Mandya is famous for the magnificent temple, Saumyakeshava, built in the 12th century. This temple built by the Hoysala rulers is situated in Nagamangala. The architectural style of the temple is majestic and has been declared as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India and attracts tourists from all over. Located in Melkote, the Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple is another spot worth seeing in Mandya. This temple is famous for the glorious carvings on its pillars.
