Kolar

Kolar, which lies on the southern plains of the Indian state of Karnataka, is the headquarters of Kolar District. This town which is also called the Golden City of India is famous for Kolar gold fields where gold mining is done. One of the largest producers of milk in the country, Kolar is also referred to as the land of mangoes and silk. This little town export mangoes to various nations like the USA, the UK, and the UAE. This place is also well known for the Someshwara temple which is considered to be a monument of national importance and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Kolaramma is considered to be the goddess of Kolar and the Kolaramma temple is also quite famous.

Being famous for some of the historical temples and caves, this place is a popular tourist destination. Besides the Someshwara temple and Kolaramma temple, Kolar is also well known for places like Antharagange caves, Avani, and Kotilingeshwara temple. Antharagange caves attract a number of tourists, the main reason being there is a pond in the temple which gets a continuous flow of underground water which comes from the mouth of a stone bull.
