JSS University is an abbreviation for Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University. This deemed university is based out of the city of Mysore; it was established in the year 2008 as a part of the UGC Act of 1956. The University is a part of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, which runs several educational institutions. JSS University comprises JSS Pharmacy College, JSS Dental College, and JSS Medical College and focuses on health and medical issues.
While the main campus is located in Mysore, the second pharmacy college is based in Ootacamund in Tamil Nadu. The University is widely recognized for the quality of its professional, graduate, and undergraduate educational programs and their effectiveness. Outreach programs, plus creative use of information technology, further enhance the institutions’ strengths.
What Does it Offer?
There are myriad courses offered by JSS University across different disciplines and levels. UG courses offered by the university include MBBS, BDS, B.Pharm, Pharm D, and Pharm D (Post Baccalaureate). MD, MS, MDS, and M Pharm are PG courses offered to help students become committed medical professionals and benefit society at large.
‘Principles of Clinical Pharmacology’ is one of the PG certificate courses offered by the University. Some of the PG Diploma courses at the University include Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Diploma in Clinical Pathology, Diploma in Child Health, Diploma in Orthopedics, Diploma in Anaesthesiology, Diploma in Venerology and Dermatology, Diploma in Ophthalmology, and Diploma in Psychiatric Medicine, among others.
Ph.D programs are offered in medical sciences, dental sciences, and pharmacy. JSS University offers several certificate courses, such as Introduction to Principles and Practice of Clinical Research, in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health.
Research and Grants
Research is conducted in the basic and clinical sciences as part of National and International-funded projects. Both students and staff are actively engaged in clinical research, as evidenced by the publication of papers in popular professional journals. One of JSS University’s research ventures is the Depression Brain Bank, which has already begun operating.
There are travel grants available to faculty, and the university promotes research by allocating funds specifically to research students and scholars. The research fund nurtures research activities and offers scholarships to deserving PhD students to pursue their research.

Dr. Derek Mahony completed his Master’s Degree in Orthodontics from London. He is a contributing editor to several international journals and an adjunct faculty member at JSS University.
