JSS Law College, Mysore

JSS Law College functions as one of the premier institutes of law in the city of Mysore. The college aims to impart quality education to its students. It is the first Law College in the country which has been granted an autonomous status. Autonomy would mean that the syllabus taught, the method of the teaching etc would be decided by the college itself without any or minimum interference from outside. However the college is affiliated to University of Mysore and Karnataka State Law University.

The college is owned by the JSS Mahavidyapeetha trust and was established in the year 1982. The NAAC has reaccredited the college with an A Grade.

The college has a vibrant student population with slots available for intake of foreign students. The college also follows admission procedure in accordance to the state’s guidelines. There are provisions for SC/ST candidates and other backward class candidates.

Courses Offered

  • The courses offered are Five years integrated course and three years course in LLB
  • LLM (Post graduate Law degree course)
  • Courses in French, Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil are conducted as prescribed by the University of Mysore

Infrastructure Facilities

The campus has a bank to cater to the monetary needs of the students. One is ING Vysya and the other is Oriental Commercial Bank.

A well equipped library is the asset of the students and the college. It has books and journals which the students can use according to their needs. Even teachers can refer those books. It also boasts of an online legal data bank. The library is open from 8 A.M to 9 PM.

The campus provides a hostel exclusively for girls within the campus. Medical facilities are provided for the students by the college run JSS Hospital and a team of qualified doctors. The hostel also provides multi-gymnasium where the students can play indoor games. The college boasts of security systems.

JSS Law College is also equipped with a computer lab. Indoor and Outdoor sports facilities is provided. This law college in Bangalore also provides a counseling center to help students battling depression or psychological problems. A campus placement cell is in place to help students get placements after their courses are complete. The college has tie ups with companies like HSBC, GMR, JP Morgan etc for placements.

The college is involved in a lot of extracurricular work which gives practical exposure to the students. MYCAB (Mysore’s citizens advisory board is an initiative by the college which is designed to help citizens to gain necessary information so that they are able to speak and stand up for themselves. The primary objective of MYCAB is to assist citizens in accessing the various benefits provided by the state.

A moot club is in place which again gives practical experience to all the students. The features of this club  is to organize seminars, orientation programs, bridge courses in computer and English, workshops, Legal aid surveys, Legal Aid clinics, legal literacy awareness etc.
