Most institutions in Karnataka offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various specialized fields of hotel management.
Most undergraduate hotel management courses conducted by various institutions are three to four years long. Selection is based on the scores obtained by the students in the entrance examination and personal interviews conducted. Candidates with an undergraduate degree may also pursue their postgraduate degree in hospitality administration. Degrees offered are,

- Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Catering Science
- Diploma in Hotel Management
- Bachelor of Science program in Hospitality
- Hotel Administration.
The Bangalore University academic council has decided to introduce functional Kannada as a compulsory subject for the third semester of Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) for the academic year 2009-10. Kannada will be a non-credit subject.
