Sri Aurobindo Ashram is a spiritual organization established by Sri Aurobindo and his spiritual collaborator, the Mother (Mirra Alfassa) in Pondicherry. Sri Aurobindo Complex, Bangalore, is the state headquarters of Sri Aurobindo Society State Committee, Karnataka. It is situated in the J. P. Nagar (1st Phase) area of Bangalore.

Sri Aurobindo Complex – Overview

The spiritual complex is spread across an area of one and a quarter acres. It is a spiritual place where the values and teachings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother are practiced. The place attracts many people who seek inner peace and tranquility.

The complex has two organizations, namely:

  • Sri Aurobindo Complex Trust
  • Sri Aurobindo Society State Committee Karnataka

Sri Aurobindo Complex Trust (SACT) is driven by the objective of Supramental Manifestation and Divine Life on earth. It works towards spreading peace, unity and harmony in the whole world. It also aims to spread Sri Aurobindo’s message to each and every corner of Karnataka.

Sri Aurobindo Complex – Facilities

The Complex has several facilities for visitors who want to realize the message of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Among the facilities available are:

Meditation Hall – The impressive lotus-roof topped “Sri Aurobindo Meditation Hall” is a hexagonal structure. It has a height of 88 feet and a diameter of 20 feet. The hall is open to public for meditation from 8 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 8 pm every day.

Cultural cum Exhibition Hall – “Samskruti”, the cultural cum exhibition hall has a seating capacity of 200 people. It is used for all cultural programs, dance classes, yogasana classes, spiritual talks, etc.

Audio Visual Hall – The audio-visual hall is utilized for school related activities such as parent-teacher meetings, study circle meetings, audio-visual programs, teacher trainings, weekend discourses, etc.

Open Air Theater – “Sriranga”, the open air theatre is equipped with audio visual facilities and motorized screens. It is used for state conferences, school functions, inter school competitions, etc.

Aurogym – Aurogym is a multi-gym with body developing facilities. It is open to anyone who subscribes to it. The gym also has a full time trainer. The gym is used to instill the values of integral education for the development of the mind and the body.

Computer Center – The computer training center is used to train students of the Mirambika School. The computer center is equipped with internet facility and handles the DTP works for the Kannada monthly magazine “Akhila Bharat Patrika.”

Library – The library has a collection of around 1000 books on Sri Aurobindo and the Mother and other spiritual books. The library is open to the public but the books cannot be taken out of the library premises. The library is open from Monday to Saturday.

Matruchaya Guesthouse – The Matruchaya Guesthouse is a three storied structure that provides accommodation to all the devotees and invitees of the complex. The guest house is not open for the general public and requires the reference of a society member to avail this facility.

Center for Ashram Products & Books – The general people can avail ashram products, books, photographs and other literature of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother from this center during the regular working hours of the complex.

Dormitary for Members – The dormitory facility is available free of cost for the devotees coming from the rural centers.

Mirambika School for New Age – The school aims to provide an education that will help in developing a child’s personality integrally. The school lays stress on widening individual consciousness and imparting moral and spiritual values.

Sri Aurobindo Complex – Activities

The Complex conducts several regular activities such as:

  • Meditation classes
  • Yogasana classes
  • Computer coaching
  • Child education programs
  • Music classes (vocal & instrumental)
  • Painting and drawing classes
  • Cultural activities
  • Talks and discourses
  • Prayer meetings
  • Exhibition of photographs
  • Publication of books & magazines
  • Workshops & Seminars
  • Study Circle Meet
  • Youth camp & cultural meet
  • Rural development
  • Integral education & Teachers’ training

How to Reach

The Complex can be easily reached by air, rail or road.

By Air

The nearest airport is the international airport at Bangalore. It has flights that connects city to major cities and towns of the country and abroad.

By Rail

The railway station at Bangalore is the nearest railway station. The station has trains that connect it to most other parts of the country and almost all parts of the state.

By Road

Bangalore is well-connected by buses to most towns and cities of the state. There are cabs, taxis, public buses and auto-rickshaws that can transport people from any part of the city to the spiritual complex.
