- iCleanX can clean 5 kilometer stretches of roads
- It automates sweeping the roads and transferring waste
- iCleanx may be used by the BBMP shortly in the future.
Just like homes are swept clean every day, so are the roads of the city. In Bengaluru, watching the pourakarmikas or civil contract workers sweep the roads and push litter laden carts prompted Prakash Hosadurga, a Bengaluru-based mechanical engineer to design a smart street sweeper – iCleanX.
iCleanX – An Introduction
The idea behind the iCleanX was to create a machine that may be used to clean the roads without the laborer having to physically lift the waste. The iCleanX is a smart sweeping machine that consists of brooms and a small cart.
The automated broom sweeps the roads and transfers the litter to the cart. This four-wheeled push cart has a capacity of 45 liters and can be used to clean a 5km stretch of road every day.
The machine was first used by the BMTC to clean stations in 2018. It was also used to clean the tarred roads in Lalbagh and the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal corporation.
Icleanx And The BBMP
The iCleanX has not yet been used on the BBMP roads. However, the special commissioner of solid waste management with the BBMP, Mr. Randeep D said that the BBMP does want to buy 3 such machines to clean small roads in Bengaluru.
The Designer
Prakash Hosadurga is a mechanical engineer who worked with a number of Indian and international corporate companies before starting Triangle Innovations. iCleanX is the first product designed by Triangle Innovations.
Challenges Ahead
The iCleanX can currently only be used on dry roads. It can also not be used to segregate dry and wet waste. These are both issues that Hosadurga is working on to improve the iCleanX.
