Attiveri Bird Sanctuary – An Ideal Destination for Nature Lovers

Located in the Indian State of Karnataka, lies the Attiveri Bird Sanctuary. The bird sanctuary is 15 kms from the village Mundgod and about 43 kms from the Hubli-Dharwad district. The sanctuary is a serene and quiet place, ideal for bird watchers. It is located around the Attiveri Reservoir and has riverine and deciduous forests surrounding the area.

This reservoir attracts a variety of birds each year. The sanctuary covers an area of 22.3 sq kms, out of which, 1.01 sq km is the reservoir and the remaining area is the forest cover. The sanctuary has about 79 species of birds which arrive every year from 22 countries.

Best time to visit Attiveri Bird Sanctuary

The best time to visit the sanctuary is from November to March. The sanctuary has a heavy monsoon from May to August.

Opening Time: 6.00 AM to 6.00 PM

Fauna at Attiveri Bird Sanctuary

The Attiveri Bird Sanctuary has a variety of bird species visiting each year. These include the Great Egret, Black-headed Ibis, Indian Cormorant, Little Egret, Indian Pond Heron, the Grey Francolin, Eurasian Spoonbill, Green Bee-eater, Darter, Little Cormorant and Intermediate Egret. In addition, there are other birds in the sanctuary, which include the Barn Swallow, Brown Shrike, Southern Grey Shrike, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Bay-backed Shrike, and many more.

If you are lucky enough, you will be able to spot a variety of wild animals in the sanctuary. These include wild boar, jackal, grey mongoose, jungle cat, black naped hare, Indian porcupine, Common Palm Civet and Indian Pangoline.

The Attiveri Bird Sanctuary is an ideal destination for nature lovers as well as bird watchers. Carry your binoculars with you to make the most of this mecca for bird lovers.

How to Reach Attiveri Bird Sanctuary

By Air

The nearest International airport is in Bangalore and the nearest Domestic Airport is in Hubli.

By Train

You can reach Attiveri by train from Hubli. From there by road you can reach the sanctuary.

By Road

The sanctuary is best accessible from the well-connected road network. It lies at a distance of 400 kms from Bangalore and 50 kms from Hubli.
