Uppinakudru Island – Of Scenic Splendour And Serenity

Uppinakudru as its name goes means ‘Island of Salt’, which  was once a popular hub for salt and seafood trades. Uppinakudru island is situated 8.5 kms from Kundapura and 44 kms from  Udupi in the Udupi district of Karnataka. It is located about 378 kms from Bangalore. 

Uppinakudru, the island village abounds in natural beauty and is an ideal spot if you want to be soaked in serenity, away from the hustle bustle of the cities.It is thinly populated and so a perfect place to unwind with ease. Uppinakudru island is yet to be caught in the exploring eyes of travellers and hence not set foot by many. Uppinakudru island, Udupi is sanctified by many ancient temples and mutts, the most popular being the Gopala Krishna temple.

There are numerous popular tourist places near Uppinakudru island that a discerning traveller will want to explore, which will pave the way for a fruitful interstate Karnataka travel. 

Udupi

The temple city of Udupi, housing the popular Krishna temple and noted for the lip smacking Udupi cuisine is 44 kms from Uppinakudru.

Murudeshwar

Widely acclaimed for the world’s second tallest Shiva statue, Murudeshwar also houses an ancient Shiva temple perched on a hill and surrounded by the waters of the Arabian sea. Murudeshwar is just 65 kms from Uppinakudru.

Jog Falls

Jog falls, the cascading beauty of Karnataka is the second highest plunge waterfall in India. It is 123 kms from Uppinakudru.

Karkala

From about 75 kms from the Uppinakudru, beckons the towering Gomateshwara statue of Karkala. The place is known for its historical and natural landmarks.

Sagara

Sagara, located about 100 kms from Uppinakudru is noted for the Marikamba temple built by Venkatappa Nayaka.

Kumta

Kumta, one of the coastal beauties of Karnataka is about 107 kms from Uppinakudru. 

Sirsi

The city of Sirsi, about 168 kms from Uppinakudru abounds in evergreen forests and breathtaking waterfalls.

How to reach Uppinakudru island

By rail

The Senapura railway station and Kundapura railway station are near Uppinakudru. Senapura is 12.5 kms and Kundapura is just 8.5 kms from Uppinakudru.

Uppinakudru can also be reached by train via Bijoor, Shiroor and Bhatkal. 

By road

Uppinakudru can be reached by road from Kundapura and Bhatkal.
