Must Visit Places Near Madhugiri

Madhugiri, a small town lies at a distance of 105 kms from Bangalore. Very well known for its fort, Madhugiri is about 43 kms from Tumkur. Tourists are attracted to this small town for various sights. Madhugiri is at a height of 3930 feet and it is a single hill. Here are some of the must-visit places near Madhugiri.

Madhugiri Fort

The village of Madhugiri is famous for its fort. Perched on the steep slopes of the hills, the Madhugiri Fort is an excellent example of the architecture and stone. Constructed in 1678 by Raja Heera Gowda of the Ganga dynasty, the fort is a famous tourist attraction. The Gowdas used to rule the region from the Madhugiri Fort. Although the fort is now in a ruined condition due to improper maintenance, it only serves as a trek for adventurers. At the top of the hill lies a temple of Gopalakrishna which is also in a ruined condition today. Jain temples are also found here. It is a must visit place near Madhugiri.  [Read more]

Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve

Another must visit place near Madhugiri is Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve. Located at a distance of 25 kms from Madhugiri is the Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve, it covers an area of 3.23 sq kms and offers a sight of rich flora and fauna. There are a variety of reptiles and birds in the reserve forest. The reserve also has mammals that include jungle cat, rabbit, Indian grey mongoose, wolf and many more. Channarayana Durga

At a distance of 10 kms on the way to Madhugiri is the Channarayana Durga. It is one of the nine forts and has a temple and semi-ruined structures located inside. In older days, several battles were fought for this fort because of its location. Constructed in the 17th century, this fort is now a popular trek. A popular spot for trekking, Siddara Betta is a hill located near the Devarayana Durga. The beautiful location has a temple and a couple of caves located at the top. The hill has a dense forest which is home to a variety of bird species. It has a special significance for bird watchers and includes the famous species like the Yellow Throated Bulbul. Siddaganga Mutt

A popular pilgrimage place near Madhugiri is Siddaganga. This place near Madhugiri is very popular because of the temple and the six shrines situated in the temple. Located on a hillock, the place has a famous temple of Siddhalingeshwara. The Veerashaiva Matha is located near the temple. Mallinatha Temple

Built in 1531 AD, the Mallinatha temple has a five metal idol of the Lord Mallinatha. The temple is well known for its architecture in stone and has an idol seating in the Kandasana posture.

Sree Harihareshwara Swamy Temple

The ancient temple is located in the South towards Tumkur and has many devotees visiting for the natural beauty of the place and to see the attractive sculpture.
