Kabini River Lodge was established by Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd and this resort was their first ecotourism venture. It has been rated as one among the top five wildlife resorts in the world by a British Travel Guide. The lodge is located at the southern end of the Nagarhole National Park.
This national park was once the hunting hub of the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore as well as many British rulers. Kabini itself is home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, Gaurs, Chitals, Sambar deer, Sloth Bears, Langurs along with the hard to spot leopards and tigers.
While elephant-trapping was once rampant at Kabini, today it is an offence under the wildlife conservation measures taken by the government.
The lodge itself features colonial architecture with vast and well-equipped rooms. The lodge can accommodate 50 people easily, as it has 14 spacious colonial type double rooms, six twin bed cottages and five tented cottages. All rooms and cottages have attached modern bathrooms. However, you may miss your favourite TV programs as none of the rooms are equipped with the same. The rooms aren’t air conditioned, and this is something that you may miss too.
The Viceroy’s Building, as it is otherwise called, contains a well-equipped bar. It also houses a large room that can be used to conduct seminars or meetings, as the room comes equipped with a multimedia projector along with other conferencing facilities. The lodge has a dining room which is circular in shape and called Gol Ghar. It has a gazebo layout, as it is open along the sides and overlooks River Kabini.
