Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur

Siddaganga Institute of Technology is one of the 130 institutions under the umbrella of Siddaganga Educational Society. Founded in 1963 by His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji, the institute began its journey in the field of technical education with the three conventional Engineering courses. It is located in Tumkur on NH-4, which is about 70Kms from the capital city of Bangalore. It achieved an autonomous status by the Visveswaraiah Technological University (VTU) Belgaum in the year 2007.

What Does it Offer?

The campus covers an area of 65acres with sprawling greenery and has 14 departments offering Under Graduate programs and Postgraduate programs.

Under Graduate courses offered are Bachelor’s Engineering in Architecture, Bio technology, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering & Management, Information Science & Engineering, Instrumentation & Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering.

The institute offers Post Graduate programs in Master of Business Administration, Master of Computer Applications, M.Tech in Signal Processing – E & C, Manufacturing Sc – Engineering, Transport Engineering – Management and Computer Network Engineering, Civil Engineering – Structures, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Thermal Power Engineering.

The Ph.D programs offered are Ph.D in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Management, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering – Management, Biotechnology and Telecommunication Engineering.

The institute also offers the placement services to students by arranging for campus interviews.

The institute has eight hostel blocks to accommodate students out of which are six blocks are for boys and two blocks for girls. The campus has indoor and outdoor sports facilities with a fully equipped Gym, a health center, bank and the Birla Auditorium with a seating capacity of 1000 people.

The library inside the campus has a collection of 70000 volumes out of which 25000 volumes under book bank. This library is also home for nearly 3500 plus student project dissertations and a good stock of CDs, DVDs and floppy disks of books and technical journals.

Research and Grants

SIT one among the 14 Engineering Colleges which come under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP), which is a World Bank Project is administered by the Government of Karnataka. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) accredits the Under Graduate courses; the NBA is an autonomous under the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

The Who’s Who of Siddaganga Institute of Technology

Being an autonomous college under the VTU this institute offers excellence in the field of technical education. His Holiness Dr. Sree Sree Shivakumara Swamiji is the founder and the President of this institute. The management team comprises of Dr.M.N Channabasappa – Director, Dr.Shivakumaraiah – Principal and Deans Prof. Basavarajaiah, Dr.K.P Shivananda and Dr.K Shashishekar.
