Kalhatti Giri Falls – An Elegant Cascading Waterfall

Kalhatti Giri Falls (Kalahasti Falls) is in Chikmagalur district at Kallathipura in Karnataka.  The waterfall is in an elegant location and is a beautiful cascading waterfall amidst the luscious greenery. The waterfall from the Chandra Drona hills around 122 meters’ height above.

The fall is in the front of Veerabhadreshwara temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kemmangundi hill station is around 10km from the waterfall. The waterfall is surrounded by captivating valleys and gardens, which is indeed a visual treat to visitors.

Kalhatti Giri Falls – The Spiritual Connection

It is believed that Saint Agastya did pray here for a long time. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Veerabhadreshwara temple was supposed to be built during the Vijayanagara times.

The temple contains three stone carvings of elephants at the entrance which depicts the Vijayanagara architecture. The cascading waterfall falls over these three elephants always. The people believe that the water is sacred and can cure many diseases.

Lord Veerabhadrashwara temple celebrates the annual fair every March-April which is visited by many pilgrims and lasts for three days.

Kalhatti Giri Falls – A Trekker’s Paradise

The cascading waterfall is not only an elegant spot to refresh and rejuvenate but also an ideal place for trekkers. The nearby hills and mountains are perfect for the trekkers to enjoy their adventure.

Trekkers can climb up to the hills and catch up the panoramic view of the elegant valleys below ad well as the waterfall. The base of the camp is Tarikere which is around 35km from the spectacular hill station of Kemmanagundi.

How to Reach Kalhatti Giri Waterfalls

By Road

Birur in Chikmagalur is the nearest station to the waterfalls. Birur is well connected to Bangalore and other places via Road. Bangalore is 245 km from Kalahtta Giri waterfalls and Mangalore is 150 km.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is Birur. From Birur one can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw as it takes 30 mins. Birur is connected to Shimoga, Bangalore etc. by train.

By Air

Mangalore is the nearest airport to Kalahatta Giri waterfalls around 180 km. From the airport one can take up buses or ca to reach the waterfall.
