Purple Line

The Purple Line of the Bangalore Metro Lines connects Whitefield (Kadugodi) in the east with Challaghatta in the southwest, aligning east to west. It forms Phase 1 and 2 of the Bangalore metro. The fully functional Purple Line is 43.49 km and has 37 stations.

Green Line

The Green Line is operational and falls under Phase 1 and Phase 2. The operational length of the Green Line is 33.5 km with 31 stations.

Yellow Line

The Yellow Line, which is operational, connects Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road to Bommasandra and comes under Phase 2. This line connects Electronic City and the Bommasandra industrial area with the Bangalore metro network. It is 18.82 kilometres long and has 16 stations. The Karnataka Government has also consented to the preparation of DPR by the Tamil Nadu government for an extension of the Yellow line from Bommasandra to Hosur in Tamil Nadu.

Pink Line

The Pink Line of the Bangalore Metro Lines connects Kalena Agrahara in the south with Nagawara in the north, aligning from South to North. It covers a distance of 21.25 kilometres and will have 18 stations. The Pink Line is also under construction and is expected to be operational in 2025–26 and forms a part of Bengaluru Metro’s Phase 2 expansion. In addition, there are two phases of the Pink Line, and the first phase may see its completion by December 2024, while the entire line will be around 2026.

Blue Line

The Blue Line, or the ORR-Airport Metro Line, is 58.19 kilometres, consisting of 30 stations. It connects the Central Silk Board with the Kempegowda International Airport. The Blue Line of Bangalore Metro Lines is also under construction, namely Phase 2A (Silkboard to KR Puram) and Phase 2B (KR Puram to Airport) and will see its completion by June 2025 and June 2026, respectively.

The much awaited Airport Metro in Bangalore is likely to open in two phases. The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminal – Hebbal Section will first open between June and September 2026. It will be followed by the Hebbal – KR Pura section in the next few months in December. Also, of the six coaches on the Blue Line Metro train, four will have luggage racks for the convenience of the KIA bound passengers.

Orange Line

The Orange Line of the Bangalore Metro Lines forms a part of Phase 3 of the Bangalore Metro and is still under planning with a length of 80 kilometres. According to the plan, the proposed routes of the Orange Line under Phase 3A connect Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Ph (along ORR-West). The Orange Line will see its completion by 2028 with 22 stations.

Bangalore Metro Lines – Orange Line Properties Acquisition

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has recognized 700 properties along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch for the construction of the Orange Line under Phase III. The stretch extends from Kempapura to JP Nagar IV.

At an estimated cost of Rs.1,900 crore, the properties identified for acquisition along the proposed line connect the Blue Line (KIA-Silk Board) and Pink Line (Kalena Agrahara-Nagawara) on either side. The identified properties are for building Metro Stations, entry and exit points and constructing viaducts in some places. The properties recognized for acquisition consist of vacant lands and buildings with ground +2 and +3 though there are no high-rise buildings along the way. Furthermore, defence authorities, and government agencies like BMTC, BBMP, BDA etc own these properties.

The BMRCL aims to acquire the identified properties in three batches by issuing notifications. The concerned people can expect the first notification in the next two months.

The proposed Orange Line will have facilities to interchange with operational Metro Stations and with those that are to come and also with other modes of transport. The Orange Line will connect with the Blue Line in Kempapura and Hebbal in the northern parts. Furthermore, at Hebbal, the interchange facility will connect with the suburban rail and Phase III A line (Sarjapur to Hebbal).

On Tumkur Road, the operational Peenya station of the Green Line will be connected, where the Orange Line will go above the Green Line. Also, it will intersect with another Orange Line from Hosahalli station to Kadabagere on Magadi Road.

The BMRCL has proposed to build a depot with the acquisition of seventy-five acres of land, which will be used for both lines.

On Mysore Road, the Orange Line will go above the Purple Line, which is operational and the Nayandahalli Metro Flyover. While on Kanakapura Road, the Orange Line will connect with the JP Nagar Metro Station. However, on Bannerghatta Road, the line will terminate at JP Nagar IV Phase with the facility to interchange.

As per the original plan, BMRCL aims to construct a road cum Metro-flyover at two points. They are from the Kanakapura Road to Sarakki at about 1.3 KM and Ittamadu to Hosakerehalli at 1.5 KM. BMRCL also has proposed to study the possibility of constructing a road cum Metro-flyover along the whole corridor.

Red Line

The proposed Red Line of Bangalore Metro (Namma Metro) will connect Hebbal with Sarjapura. It falls under Phase 3A of Namma Metro and will be a 37 km line with 28 stations.
