Benne Hole Falls, Karwar

Benne Hole Falls water falls is formed from the tributary of river “Aghanashini”, which flows in the Devimane Ghats region of the Western Ghats. The height of the falls is about 200 feet.

Benne Hole Falls can be called one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Uttara Kannada.

In Kannada, ‘benne’ means butter and ‘hole’ means big stream. About 21 kms from Sirsi to Kumta is place called Kasage, which is 6 kms from the waterfalls. One needs to take the path towards Hosur. The falls is 2 kms walk from this route.

The trail is extremely shady with almost no sunlight penetrating even in the height of summer. It is better to stick to the commonly used trail instead of going through the several deviations you come across.

This is a completely downhill trek after the first stream, going on for two kilometers until a viewpoint. If you want to carry on exploring and be nearer to the Benne Hole Falls, you can take the path leading down the rocks. This is an extremely difficult trail in the monsoon when your visibility is completely hampered.

The water of Benne Hole, however, forms a clear pool around large and small rocks in which swimming is just not advisable.

Birds seen at Benne Hole includegrey jungle fowl, woolly necked stork, common kestrel, plum headed parakeet, jungle owlet, copper smith barbet, orange minivet, black headed oriole and more.

Best time to visit Benne Hoe falls is October – February.
