Airport capacity can be enhanced to handle up to 50 million passengers, oneand-a-half times more than Zurich airport. Capacity to handle landing and take-off of 40 aircrafts per hour
Positioned as a transit hub for the whole of South-East Asia, the Bangalore International Airport’s stated aim is to be as efficient and functional as the Zurich airport in Europe, said to be the most efficient airport in that region. The airport offers direct and indirect employment to 15,000 people, besides providing a boost to the economy. As many 19 airlines — 12 international and seven Indian — have already agreed to use the services of this state-of-the-art project that’s offering heavy concessions in areas like cargo management and duty-free. Apart from the 700 direct staff, the airport can handle around 6,000 staff. The six level airport offers 1.5 lakh square feet of office space and is likely to add 1 lakh sq ft more to that.
