Commute to Kempegowda International Airport – Trains that Take You to the Airport

Do you want to beat the traffic while commuting to Kempegowda International Airport? Catching a flight from Bangalore can be a nightmare especially if you’re coming from the other end of the city but it doesn’t necessarily have to be so.

By road, the distance between Yeshwantpur and the Kempegowda Airport can be covered in no less than an hour – if you don’t get stuck in a traffic jam that is.

However, believe it or not, there is a way to cover this distance in just about 40 minutes. How do you do this – take the train.

Train Services To Bengaluru Airport – The A To Z

Commute to Kempegowda International Airport – Train from Yeshwantpur to Doddajala

Unlike other cities with a suburban railway network, Bengaluru does not have separate tracks for its suburban trains. There are 6 trains between Yeshwantpur and Doddajala. These trains stop at Lottegollahalli, Kodigehalli, Yelahanka, and Bettahalsoor along a very scenic route.

Train No.NameDeparture Time

06596Devanahalli- Yeshwantpur1.20 pm

76526Kolar – Channapatna DEMU8.34 am
76551KSR Bengaluru City - Kolar9.35 am
76552Kolar – KSR Bengaluru City4.34 pm

The low frequency of these trains is one of the reasons why these trains are not very popular. In addition, there is very little awareness of these trains. Hence, you’re likely to find the train almost empty at times when traffic is bumper to bumper on the roads.

Commute to Kempegowda International Airport – Cost Comparison

Taking the train not only helps you save time, but it also helps you save money. Here is how

  • A ticket on the BMTC’s shuttle service, Vayu Vajra costs INR 230 without GST.
  • In comparison, prepaid taxis cost about INR 800 for a one-way
  • In comparison to them, a ticket on the train from Yeshwantpur to Doddajala costs only Rs10.
  • The Doddajala station is just about 9km from the airport and a seat in a cab to the airport should not cost more than Rs20-30.

Note: You may be charged a little extra if you have luggage.

Commute to Kempegowda International Airport – The Doddajala Station

Don’t be fooled by the looks of the Doddajala station. Sadly the station has not been maintained and has developed the look of an abandoned bungalow. The building is 103 years old and was commissioned in August 1915. A separate holding structure was installed earlier this year but it has no roof or seating facilities.

A single toilet was also installed but for most of the time, this remains locked. Another issue with the station is the low height of the platform that makes it difficult for elderly travelers to bard or alight trains.

The ticketing and running of the station have been tendered to a contractor who arrives a few minutes before each train stops. So, if you do arrive early, all you need to do is wait a while and you’ll soon have a ticket in your hand and be on your way home without having had to brave the Bengaluru traffic.

A New Halt Station Is Getting Ready To Make Airport Commuting Easier
