B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore

B.M.S. College of Engineering (BMSCE) was founded in 1946 and it is a private college located opposite to the Bull Temple in Bangalore. Although it is a private college, the Government of Karnataka partially funds it. BMSCE is one of the first private technical colleges in Karnataka and is an institute of repute. It draws the maximum number of students amongst all Karnataka Engineering colleges from across all states in India and also has foreign students.

BMSCE celebrated their ‘Diamond Jubilee’ in 2006 and more than 30,000 engineers across the globe are proud to be a part of the alumnus. BMSCE conducts an inter-collegiate festival called UTSAV, a blend of technology and culture, every year. UTSAV is one of the most renowned events of India, which is organized by students.

Admission to this prestigious and consistently high-ranking college is done through form submission and entrance examinations. BMSCE ranked 25th in the 2010 list of Best Engineering Colleges in India, 24th in India Today’s 2009 list of the same, and 18th in Data Quest’s 2010 listing of Top Engineering Colleges.

What Does BMSCE Offer?

BMSCE offers Masters and Research degrees in almost all branches of business administration, engineering and computers. The college offers degree courses in the Arts/Humanities stream as well as in Commerce and Business Administration. Bachelors degree is also offered for a 5-year course in Architecture (B. Arch) and 4-year courses in Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Biotechnology, etc. For Post Graduate courses, seats are offered under the Government seats and Management seats categories; the selection and admission processes for these seats differ.

Since 1996, the college’s Alumni Association has been providing scholarships for meritorious but needy students and has also been funding the college library’s subscription of books. The college’s Heads of Departments and the Alumni Association’s local representatives decide the awarding of scholarship on the basis of “Merit-Cum-Means”.

BMSCE has hostel facilities for students from other cities and countries. This creates a multi-cultural, cosmopolitan environment in the hostel, with all festivals like Holi, Independence Day, Ganesha Puja and Laxmi Puja being celebrated. The dining hall is spacious enough for 120 people to dine at one time. Internet facilities and a branch of Allahabad Bank provide connectivity and ease of financial transactions to students.

Research Activities in BMSCE

BMSCE has a Research Center; its purpose is to conduct research activities and publish the results in reputed International and National academic journals in order to establish win-win collaborations. The Research Center helps the faculty to patent outputs of research.

The Who’s Who of BMSCE

Named after one of the best known philanthropists, late Sri Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah, the college continued to grow under his son late Sri B.S. Narayan’s leadership. At present the Principal of BMSCE is Dr. Kayala Mallikharjuna Babu. Well known names among the Alumni are Nikhil Chinapa, MTV Anchor and VJ and H. V. Krishnaswamy, who is a consultant in Washington, D. C., to the World Bank and the New Delhi UNICEF.
