- Madikeri: Often referred to as the Scotland of India, Madikeri is the Capital of Coorg. Madikeri is famous for its lush green forests, coffee plantations, hills covered in shrouds of mist and breath taking views of the same. At the heart of Madikeri is the King’s Chair or The Raja’s Seat, which was once the favourite spot of the kings. From this spot, one could see the entire expanse of the hills in all its pristine glory. The erstwhile King of Madikeri apparently used to sit here every evening and purvey the vast expanse of the hills. Now the area has been developed into a public garden.
- Nagarahole National Wild Life Sanctuary Coorg: Nagarahole, which literally translates to “Snake River” in Kannada, is one of the best and largest wildlife sanctuaries in India. Spread over an area of 643 Square Kilometres, this sanctuary contains several wild animals like panthers, rhinos, panthers, wild elephants and tigers living in their natural habitat. Weather conditions around this area are pleasant throughout the year and Jungle safaris are available in the form of elephant rides.
- Iruppu Falls: The Iruppu Falls are located inside the Bhrahmagiri wild life sanctuary. It is about 58 feet high and falls by the river Lakshman Thirtha. The Ram Thirtha temple is located right below the Iruppu Falls. The Lakshman Thirtha flows on and joins the Cauvery River in Mysore. The Bhrahmagiri Wild life sanctuary is home to unique peacocks and some of the rarest butterflies in the world. Trekking is possible with prior permission from the wildlife authorities, though trekking here is no easy task for the uninitiated trekker.
- Abbey Falls: Situated some 7 kilometres away from the town of Madikeri, the headquarters of Coorg, is the Abbey Waterfalls. It is an impressive sight, falling from a height of 70 feet from in between huge mountain rocks. A sight that can be seen nowhere else. The Falls are also known as Jessy falls. The road leading to the Abbey falls winds through dense foliage and coffee plantations and imparts the mind with a state of calm all on its own.
