Nisargadhama, Kodagu/Coorg, also known as Kaveri Nisargadhama is a picturesque little island surrounded by the River Kaveri. It is a must visit place when you holiday in Coorg. The island is a major attraction by itself, spread out in 64 acres of land with thick bamboo groves, teak, sandalwood and other trees and plants of medicinal value, which contribute to its lush foliage. One needs to cross a hanging bridge in order to access the island.  Nisargadhama is located 3 km from Kushalnagar and 27 kms from Madikeri.

A perfect picnic spot

Nisargadhama serves as a perfect picnic spot for tourists, especially children, and hence a popular hangout for families. There are numerous activities for children, which are sure to keep them excited and engaged. The mini zoo and children’s play area are hotspots for kids. The island also hosts a Rabbit Park, a Deer Park, and an orchidarium, which are popular among the tourists.

The post-monsoon period from October to April is the best time to visit Nisargadhama, for the place is enlivened with its lush green environs.

How to reach Nisargadhama

Nisargadhama is about 27 km from Madikeri, and 3 km from Kushalnagar, the nearby connecting junction off the Mysore-Madikeri Highway. Most buses that go to Madikeri from Kushalnagar halt on the highway near the forest. From there, it takes about 15 minutes to reach Nisargadhama. One can also hire a cab from Madikeri to reach Nisargadhama.
