Kabini

Kabini forms a part of the Nagarhole National Park in the Mysore district of Karnataka. It has its own exclusive gate for jungle safaris. Safari in Kabini is a popular jungle safari near Bangalore. To go for a safari in Kabini, there are two options. You could stay at the Kabini River Lodge, a property of Jungle Lodges (JLR) of the Karnataka Government, which offers exclusive jeep safaris to its guests. Apart from this, the government also operates a canter safari (bus) and a boat safari on the Kabini River. Kabini is home to a diverse range of animals, including tigers, elephants, leopards, deer, and a good variety of birds, to enthuse you.

The water bodies in the forest dry up during the summer months of March, April, and May, which causes animals to frequent the Kabini River. You get a good chance of spotting the largest congregation of Asiatic wild elephants. During the monsoon, when the forest is dense, it is less likely to spot animals. During the other months, you get a fair chance to spot animals in Kabini.

How to reach Kabini

Kabini is 210 km from Bangalore and 62 km from Mysore. Mysore is well-connected by air, rail, and road. From Mysore, you can hire a taxi to reach Kabini.

Bandipur is one of the noteworthy tiger reserves in India. Nagarhole

Nagarhole is one of the significant Tiger Reserves of India, known for wildlife conservation under Project Tiger and Project Elephant. It is home to a great number of animals like tigers, leopards, elephants, sloth bears, gaurs, deer, Asiatic wild dogs, chital, four-horned antelope, sambar, mouse deer, wild boars, langur, and muntjac. The national park also has a wide variety of birds for bird enthusiasts. Undoubtedly, you can embark on a jungle safari near Bangalore in Nagarhole.

Safaris in the Nagarhole National Park are operated by Jungle Lodges (JLR) of the Karnataka Government. Hence, you can opt to stay in Jungle Lodges (JLR) and avail of the jeep safari, which is a part of the package. Apart from this, the forest department also operates safaris in canter buses. Furthermore, the park has two separate safari zones, Zone A and Zone B. Zone A is wooded, and Zone B is near the Kabini waters. The jeep safari operated by Jungle Lodges (JLR) allows safari in only one zone at a time. However, the Canter bus safaris operated by the forest department allow entry into both zones.

Nagarhole has three safari gates, which you can choose according to your preference and convenience. They are, namely, the Nanachi Gate close to Kutta, the Kakanakote Gate near Kabini, and the Veeranahosahalli Gate near Hunsur. Travellers from Bangalore and Mysore can use the Kakanakote Gate for safari, while those approaching from Coorg can opt for safari via the Nanachi Gate.

The ideal time to visit Nagarhole is from August to February. However, the national park is open throughout the year.

Nagarhole is 195 km from Bangalore and 61 km from Mysore. The nearest railway station and airport are at Mysore. The closest international airport, however, is Bangalore. Nagarhole is well connected by road as well from Bangalore and Mysore.

Male Mahadeshwara (MM Hills)

Male Mahadeshwara (MM Hills) is a tiger habitat with animals like elephants, leopards, spotted deer, sambars, dholes, and many species of birds also inhabiting it. The forest department has introduced jungle safaris in the MM Hills, and tourists are making the best use of the initiative by thronging there. MM Hills is 209.9 KM from Bangalore and 132.9 KM from Mysore. The nearest airport and railway station to reach MM Hills is Mysore. However, the Bangalore airport is the closest international airport. Since there are no frequent buses to MM Hills, it is advisable to hire a cab or rely on one’s own vehicle.

Bannerghatta National Park

Have you had enough of the city? You can go on an interesting Tiger and Lion jungle safari near Bangalore in the Bannerghatta National Park. It has been serving as a rehabilitation center for the lions and tigers rescued from circuses. The national park is also home to elephants, deer, bears, porcupines, bonnet macaques, and a good many varieties of birds. You can get to see the animals up close from your safari vehicle.
