Ramanagara the headquarters of Ramanagara district is located in the state of Karnataka in India. Earlier known as Shamserabad during the rule of Tipu Sultan and Closepet during pre-independence, Ramanagara got its present name based on the story that Rama visited this place during vanavasa. This region is famous for Closepet granites which is a major geological feature. A famous rock climbing destination, Ramanagara is very popular among adventurers and trekkers. This town is also called the Silk Town being one of the major production centers of Silk in India. Covered in greenery and a number of hills, this region is absolutely beautiful.

Landscapes, temples, and hills make this town quite popular among tourists. Ramadevara Betta which stands at a height of 747 meters is the most popular rock climbing hillock in this region. The 600-year-old Historical temple Malleshwara attracts tourists and pilgrims alike. This place also houses famous temples like the Banni Mahakali, Chamundeshwari, Kengal Anjaneya Swamy and Arkeshwara. Well known for its wooden toys, Channapattana is a favorite spot for lovers of arts and craft. Janapada Loka –folk museum, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Mekedaatu – the meeting point of rivers Kaveri and Arkavati, Ramadevarabetta Vulture Sanctuary and Kanva Reservoir are also some of the places to see around in Ramanagara.
