His Qualification and Areas of Specialization
With a degree of postgraduate diploma from the Military Intelligence College in Pune, Brig. P.T. Monappa acquired the highest skill sets possible in the field of intelligence to get the staff ready, both on field and off it. His education led him to take up analysis and assessment of functions in various facets of Intelligence such as prophylactic safety and counter sabotage subversion, to name a specialized few.
The man was a specialist in certain areas of intelligence. These range from physical security to intelligence in operations. To add some icing to the cake, P.T. Monappa was also very particular about keeping himself updated with the rapid growth in technology. He is trained well in using the latest electronic surveillance devices, GPS monitoring and interpreting imagery from satellites.
Assignments and Positions of Responsibility
Being a Military Intelligence Corps officer, P.T. Monappa has been in major appointments involving interaction with intelligence organizations, police forces and civil administration. The span of areas that he’s served stretches across seven union territories, 28 states and seven neighbouring countries. His understanding and knowledge of the demography of India sprawls across from Leh to Kanyakumari, and between Bhuj to Dibrugarh.
Being the go-to man for special missions, Brig. P.T. Monappa has also been an ace in setting up new projects for acquiring intelligence and in safeguarding security as well. Given below are some of the positions of responsibility that he’s held in his career.
He was the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command Liaison Unit. Being a part of the intelligence unit set up in four union territories and eight states, sprawled across 42% of the Indian subcontinent, Brig. P.T. Monappa handled situations with activists from LTTE and PWG, as a part of a special duty in the IPKF posted in Sri Lanka.
His notable achievement as part of his duty includes capturing the person responsible for preparing the crude bomb crafted for the purpose of assassinating Rajiv Gandhi. This act earned him the Vishista Seva Medal handed over to him by the President of India.
Apart from the above mentioned post, Brig. P.T. Monappa has served in the capacity of the Director of Military Intelligence, Brigadier General Staff Intelligence (Eastern & Southern Command), and as the Deputy Director General for Recruitments. Often added to this list of notable achievements is the fact that this man was solely responsible for planning, executing and completely rehearsing the Rear Area Security and disaster control programs for civil strategy and the military.
His Life Post Retirement
P.T. Monappa, post his retirement from the army, has functioned in his capacity as Vice President and Director for two very notable national investigative agencies.
