    Categories: Mysore

Dress material to the Kings of Mysore, is famous for its rich trade even to this day. About 500 families of the Padmasali community, who migrated from Andhra Pradesh some 300 years ago, have made a colony of weavers and produce rich, colourful saris and dhotis, unique in nature and style with eye catching motifs.

Down history even Tipu Sultan helped the Kodiyala weaver to import raw materials. And not to mention that our former Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi was fond of these sari.

Kodiyala saris and dress materials are now made of cotton-polyester and acrylic cotton threads. The “pallu” the hanging part of the sari and the border comes from Surat. They are famous and maintainance free because they are made of cotton mix, light weight, and are easy to watch. The shades don’t fade and fabric doesn’t shrink. The weavers have good support from the Praja Prathinidhi Sabha and the Government has sanctioned express power line to support their power looms
