Waate Halla / Hole Falls

Watte Halla falls is one of the many scenic waterfalls in Karnataka’s Western Ghats. A short distance from the Unchali Falls and the Benne Hole falls, this waterfall is created by a tributary of the Aghanashini river. The waterfall is just about 30kms away from the Sirsi town.

The waterfall gets it is name from bamboo that grows abundantly in the area. Waate means river side bamboo while Halla means pit. The waterfall has a height of about 100ft. This stepped waterfall has 4 stages before ending in a pool. The force of water at the third and fourth stage can be quite strong.

Best Time to Visit Waate Halla / Hole Falls

The monsoons increase the water flow from the Aghanashini to this waterfall. Thus, any time between the months of July and December are ideal for visiting this waterfall.

At this point of time, the hills are covered in lush greenery and water levels are at their highest. However, it is not advisable to go down to the third and fourth stage. Don’t forget to take your camera along.

The nearest food stall is in Sirsi so be sure to carry some snacks with you to make this visit into a picnic.

How to Reach Waate Halla / Hole Falls

By Road

The Watte Halla Falls are about 30 km from Sirsi. Buses ply regularly from Sirsi to Haggarani. Get off at Nilakunda and walk down for 3km to the waterfall. Alternatively, you could take a private taxi from Sirsi.

Bangalore is about 430km away and connected to the waterfall by road.

By Rail

The closest railway station is located in Sirsi. From here, tourists may take a private taxi or bus to the waterfall.

By Air

The closest airport is in Mangalore. From here, tourists can take a bus or private taxi to get to the waterfalls.
