In a bid to make it easier for Bengalureans to get tested for COVID-19, BBMP or the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has set up free testing centers in almost all the 198 wards. This BBMP free COVID 19 testing centers are not to be confused with testing at hospitals and private labs that will continue to be chargeable.
BBMP free corona testing has been introduced with the low-income groups in mind. According to the BBMP Commissioner, Manjunath Prasad, people from low-income groups can’t afford to spend INR 3,000 to 5,000. And the initiative is to help such families.

BBMP Free COVID 19 Testing – Where To Get Tested?
Testing facilities are set up at all the 141 primary health centers spread across the city.
In addition, they have deployed 70 mobile units. These mobile units will travel across the city with a focus on containment zones and areas with a high concentration of primary and secondary contacts of known COVID-19 patients.

The BBMP has received 50,000 antigen kits from the government and is to get another 1 lakh kits. With this the BBMP has been able to test at least 5,000 people per day. This is much lower than the number of people being tested in other cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
The BBMP is encouraging people to make use of the free testing facility as an early diagnosis makes treatment easier and can limit the spread of infection.
