Quotas in Private Universities

    Categories: Education

Bangalore will have two private universities – Azim Premji University & Alliance University. These were created through an Act of Karnataka state legislature. Both these universities have been setup by not-for-profit bodies.

These two universities will not be having a casate based quota for admissions. The Karnataka Higher Education Council, a state-backed think tank, is working on a new chapter to the Karnataka State Universities Act for setting up more private universities. However, 25% of the seats will be reserved for local (state domiciled) candidates.

Azim Premji University will admit 200 students for MA in Education, MA in Development and Master’s in Teacher Education from July 2011. Weightage will be given to candidates based on socio-economic background.

Alliance University will offer two year MBA, one year MBA, full-time/part-time PhD, executive post-graduate diploma in management and programmes for defence personnel.  Degrees will be offered later in Kannada and Hindi

From summer 2011, Alliance University will offer under-graduate and post-graduate engineering programmes.
