About Sri Sri Centre for Media Studies and the founder

SSCMS was founded in 2001 under the patronage of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir Trust and under the guidance of His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the founder of Art of Living. SSCMS aims to prepare its students professionally for careers in mass media. Students are taught to be determined, passionate, competitive, people-person, thoughtful.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s vision of education

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a renowned spiritual leader was born on 13 May, 1956 in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu to Visalakshi Ratnam and R. S. Venkat Ratnam. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar frequently referred to simply as “Guruji” or “Gurudev” founded Art of Living in the year 1981, which aims to relieve individual stress, societal problems, and violence.

Guruji always believed that a pleasing personality is what education should contribute to a child. Hence, Guruji founded Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Vidya Mandir trust in 1999, an educational public institution for a stress free and child-friendly environment. Trust supports several rural schools and urban universities.

SSCMS offers post graduate diploma in print, broadcast and new media journalism, an integrated long term full time program. Learning programs are proportionately spread over class room teaching, labs and field studies.

The courses offer real time experiences to the students by allowing them to publish journals, making documentaries and news bulletins. The students are prepared for the real world journalism for a year before giving exams.
