International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore

The International Institute of Information Technology was established in 1999 and was given a deemed university status in the year 2005. The institute is one of the few examples in India of public-private collaboration in the area of education and was started on the joint initiative of the government of Karnataka and the state’s IT industry.

The International Institute of Information Technology is located at Electronics City, Bangalore. It is managed by a Board of Governors and runs as a not-for-profit institution. The governing has some illustrious names from the world of Indian industry. Infosys founder, Mr Narayan Murthy is the chairperson. The other members include top industry executives as well as representatives of the government.

The institute offers a great campus life for the students. The campus was designed to provide a world class teaching environment. The class rooms and teaching areas total up to an area of 80,000 square feet – most of which is air conditioned. The smart classrooms are equipped with high speed data networks and equipment for audio visual presentations. Hostel accommodation is available and the students are given individual rooms. Internet access is available at all times throughout the campus and all students are given a wi-fi enabled laptop for use.

What’s on offer?

The institute offers post graduate degree programs. The students are selected via an entrance test, past academic results. Those who write GATE area also eligible to apply for the postgraduate program.

The programs offered are M Tech, MS by research as well as Ph D.

The M Tech in information technology would require students to specialize in computer science, networking and communication, databases and information systems, embedded systems, software engineering, IT and society and Geographic Information Sciences. The course is a four semester program.

The MS by Research focuses on fine tuning the research skills of the students. The students will be awarded their degrees on completion of their Master’s thesis. The program normally attracts working professionals.

The Ph D program takes around three to five years to be completed and is a great option for students who are keen for a career in research or academics.

Research and Grants

The institute has carried out several research projects in its computational sciences lab. The resultant research papers and results have appeared in publications and have been presented in conferences like EuroOr, IAEng and INFORMS. One of the focus areas of research at the institute has been in the area of robotics.

The institute has also worked to strengthen industry interaction. As a result, there are now several research labs at the institute. These include the Siemens Vision Lab, HP IMS Lab, Intel Planet Lab, Intel Community PC Lab and Honeywell Automation Lab.

The Who’s Who of International Institute of Information Technology

There are several big industry names associated with the International Institute of Information Technology. Prof S Sadagopan is the director of the institute and is on the governing board. Other governing board members are Prof Pankaj Chandra, Director, IIM Bangalore, Ms Neelam Dhawan, managing director, Hewlett-Packard, Gautam Hegde, managing director Backend Bangalore and several other industry captains.
