Bheemasamudra Dam

Bheemasamudra Dam is constructed across the river Jinigi Halla that flows down the Krishna basin in the southern state of Karnataka in India. The dam derives its name from the name of the village where it is located, Bheemasamudra village. The small but beautiful village is located in the Chitradurga Taluk of Karnataka.

Bheemasamudra Dam was constructed with the aim to irrigate the nearby villages. The maximum length of the dam extends up to 840 meters. The height of the dam is 14.2 meters. It is possible to store a maximum water level of 101.2 meters in the dam. The dam has the capacity for design flood of 200 cumec.

Chitradurga Fort: The Chitradurga fort is the most famous tourist attraction in the district of Chitradurga. The fort is situated on a hill and offers a splendid view of the town below. The fort is also known as Yelu Suthina Kote and has several beautiful temples and high watchtowers among other attractions.

Chandravalli: Chandravalli is an ancient archeological site. The place is known to have digs that reveal bricks, coins and painted pottery of the Satavahana period. This place is of particular interest for archeological students.

Jogimatti: Jogimatti is a hill resort that is located at a height of 3803 feet. The place is popular among the religious minded people for the presence of a natural cave that has a Shiva linga and idols of Veerabhadra and Basavanna. Tourists love visiting the spot to see the natural cave that was formed by the waters of Himavatkedra waterfall.

Sirigere: The village of Sirigere is famous for the Veershaiva Mutt of Taralabalu Jagadguru. The small village also has a well-known silk weaving industry that attracts tourist towards it.

From Bangalore travellers can take a train to reach Chitradurga, which is just 16 km away from Bheemasamudra and then take a bus to the village or directly hire a taxi from the airport to reach the village. The nearest railway stations to the village are Challakere railway station and Bellenahalli railway station that stand at a distance of just 1 km away from the village. However, the Bellary Junction Railway Station is the nearest major railway station to the village.
