Yaana Wines, Bidar – Premium Wines from Organic Grapes

    Categories: Bidar

Yaana is a wine label that was introduced to the Indian wine market in the year 2010 by Indian Ambience Vineyards Pvt. Ltd. (IAV). IAV is located near Bidar in Northern Karnataka and was founded by Shalini Sanjeev Wadikar and Baburao Sundappa in the year 2007.

Both Wadikar and Sundappa owned land in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra and supplied grapes to Sula Vineyards for a couple of years before deciding to set up their own winery following the enactment of Karnataka’s wine policy.

Spread across 60 acres of land, the vineyards at Bidar are irrigated by the river Karanja. An unusual aspect of IAV’s functioning is that organic farming is reportedly followed in the vineyards. This helps guarantee chemical-free, natural grapes for processing.

Yanna-the brand building process

Wines under the Yaana brand were released in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa and Pondicherry.

Antoine Coulomb, a renowned viticulturist and enologist was given charge of the overall process, which stretched from selection of grapes to maturing.

Coulomb is famous for his work across three continents and his wine making exploits in the countries of France, the United States of America and India have garnered him special praise.

IAV brought a lot of joy to the local populace through this undertaking, as farmers in the area were afforded long term contracts and a chance to earn better returns.

Wines on Offer

The Yaana label boasts of seven French varietals. These include five red wines; Shiraz Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Shiraz, Rosé, Shiraz and two white wines; Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.
