Yediyurappa changed his name to Yedyurappa after JD(S) refused to transfer the govt to BJP in Karnataka (in 2007). Looks like dropping the 'i' did work for Yediyurappa. He is also referred to as Yedi.

    • BJP manifesto would be next state budget: Yedi
      Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader B S Yeddyurappa today said his party's manifesto would be the next state budget, if the BJP captured power in the coming Assembly elections to Karnataka. Addressing the BJP road-show in this district, which began from temple town of Nanjangud, he said the BJP would fulfil its promises in the manifesto, besides concentrating on pro-people governance and focus on farming community in the State.

    • Yeddy sees red at not being invited
      Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is upset. The state, which celebrated the birth centenary of former CM and architect of Vidhana Soudha, Kengal Hanumanthaiah, invited former CMs M Veerappa Moily, N Dharam Singh and H D Kumaraswamy as guests. But not Yeddyurappa.

      Now, an irked Yeddyurappa has sought an explanation from governor Rameshwar Thakur.

    • Yeddyurappa insists on 'Feb mid-term polls'
      Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa today demanded that the mid-term elections in the state should be held in February.

      Addressing a public meeting here, as part of BJP's 'Janajagruti Yatra', he said the Governor's rule should end immediately as no funds were released for taking up welfare schemes, introduced in his budget while holding the finance portfolio in the previous JD(S)-BJP coalition Government.

    • Yedi meets Rajnath over political affairs in Karnataka
      Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa today called on BJP President Rajnath Singh to apprise him of the political situation in the state, now under President's rule.

      The BJP leader's meeting with Mr Singh lasted nearly half an hour. He was accompanied by former ministers R Ashok and K Subramanya Naidu.

    • Probe must in JD-S, BJP corruption charges
      Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramiah today demanded an inquiry into the corruption charges levelled against previous coalition partners Janata Dal(S) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ministers in the State.

      Talking to newspersons here, he said both the BJP and JD(S), including former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, had levelled corruption charges against each other and only a through inquiry could reveal the facts. Mr Yeddyurappa and Mr Kumaraswamy should prove their allegations against each other with relevant documents before the people, he added.

      Launching an attack on his one-time cabinet colleague H D Kumaraswamy, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday alleged that Mr Kumaraswamy had given Cabinet approval to various projects costing crores of rupees, after the resignation of BJP ministers in the first week of October.

      Former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Monday alleged that his life was under threat as Deve Gowda and sons were ‘performing’ black magic to eliminate him.

      Speaking to reporters, an emotional Yeddyurappa accused the JD(S) supremo of performing black magic for the past week or so and that he could sense that his life was under threat. “ I am aware of the black magic practices that Gowda and his sons are performing, a plan has been hatched to finish me off. Many of his opponents have suffered this fate in the past and I could be the latest victims of Gowda’s black magic practices,” he said.

    • Yeddy spoils HDK'S gameplan
      Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa did not attack the JD(S) on the floor of the Assembly on Monday. Neither did he make a protracted speech to defend himself or his governance.

      But he succeeded in scuttling JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy from attacking the BJP. Sources said Kumaraswamy had prepared 40 pages of notes to ‘expose’ the BJP. When Yeddyurappa declared that he would submit his resignation to the Governor around 4:40 pm in the House, Kumaraswamy was closeted with his brother Revanna in the chambers of the Speaker.

      In a public interaction programme in a private channel, Yeddyurappa said the JD(S) demanded that its ministers should have portfolios of Mines and Geology and Housing and Urban Development.

      But the BJP did not agree as the demand was not part of the oral agreement that BJP and JD(S) had come to 21 months ago.

    • President's rule again in Karnataka
      The Union Cabinet today decided to impose President's rule in Karnataka and also placed the State Assembly under suspended animation. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held this morning at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss Karnataka situation. The Cabinet reportedly accepted Karanataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur suggestions for President"s rule, as there was no possibility of any alternative government.

      The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) met late last night where Manmohan Singh considered Thakur"s report, but took no decision. The Governor had sent his report to the Cabinet soon after Yeddyurappa resigned from the post of chief minister, as he lacked the requisite numbers on the floor of the House.

    • Karnataka: Confidence motion fails for the first time
      For the first time in the history of Karnataka legislature, a government has failed in winning the vote of confidence though it was not put to vote.

      BJP which received a severe blow from Janata Dal (Secular) when it backout in extending support during the vote of confidence moved by the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in the specially convened legislative session today.

      Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader B S Yeddyurappa will popularly be known as 'Sath Din Ka Sultan' (king for seven days) as he quit the Chief Ministership today following withdrawal of support by Janata Dal (Secular).

      It was a short lived dream for the 64-year-old Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa who was sworn in as 26th Chief Minister of Karnataka on November 12 with four other BJP ministers.

    • Yedi fails to prove majority, to resign soon
      The six-day-old BJP-led coalition government in Karnataka failed to prove its majority on the floor of the assembly as the JD(S) issued whip to its legislators to vote against the vote of confidence, moved by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. Yeddyurappa has proceeded to Raj Bhavan to submit resignation.

      At last the dream of the saffron party to set up its maiden goverment in South India came to an end as its allaince failed to "follow the coaliton dharma".

    • Yeddyurappa likely to put in his papers
      Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is likely to resign from the post following the refusal of the Janata Dal (Secular) to support him at the confidence vote in the Karnataka Assembly today.

      A top BJP leader gave a broad hint in this regard in Parliament, adding that the party will make a formal statement very soon.

    • BJP-JD (S) Govt may fall in Karnataka
      Just hours before the B.S.Yeddyurappa led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government"s floor test in the Karnataka Assembly, its coalition partner, the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S) has issued a whip to vote against the BJP Government during the trust vote. The decision was taken during the JD-S legislature party meeting this morning.

      JD-S chief supremo H D Deve Gowda directed all legislators to vote against Yeddyurappa. The BJP needs at least 113 votes to form a government. If the JD (S) votes against Yeddyurappa, he will fall short of majority by 34 votes. If all legislators vote in favour of Yeddyurappa, then he will have the support of 129 legislators in the House.


    • Yedi govt to seek vote of confidence today
      The B.S.Yeddyurappa led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka will seek a vote of confidence on the floor of the State Assembly here today.  The floor test assumes significance as the talks between Yeddyurappa and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy over the 12-point MoU failed on Sunday. Janta Dal (Secular) (JD-S) chief H D Deve Gowda had told the BJP leadership that signing the MoU was a must for getting support of the JD (S).

      Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has a daunting task of compensating the victims and setting right the infrastructure in the district, which was ravaged by rain and flood this monsoon.

    • Yedi sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka
      Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B S Yeddyurappa was today sworn in as the 26th Chief Minister of Karnataka, heading a BJP-JD(S) coalition Government.

      Governor Rameshwar Thakur administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Yeddyurappa on the portals of Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, amidst thunderous cheers from party workers who had thronged to witness the historic occasion of the BJP forming its first Government in South India.

    • Yedi to take oath as first BJP CM
      The stage has been set for the swearing in of the first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in south of the Vindhyas, with senior BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa all set to take oath as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka, heading a BJP-JD(S) coalition government, on Nov 12.

      Final touches were being given to the Vidhana Soudha, the State Secretariat, where Governor Rameshwar Thakur would administer the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Yeddyurappa.

      Senior BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa said he had been invited to form the government in Karnataka by Governor Rameshwar Thakur and indicated that he would take the oath of office on Monday.
