Former chief minister S M Krishna's wait for a bigger responsibility at the national level seems to be over. He is likely to be inducted into the Union cabinet or made the AICC general secretary and given charge of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.According to party sources, the official announcement will be made shortly. The sources said that efforts were on to allot him the finance portfolio, which is presently with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. After Mumbai attacks, home minister Shivraj Patil had resigned and finance minister P Chidambaram had taken charge of home affairs.

Rangarajan, Krishna take oath as RS members
Former Reserve Bank Governor and Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairman C Rangarajan and former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna were administered the oath of affirmation by Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari in his Chamber on Monday, Aug 18.Mr Rangarajan, an outstanding economist and former Governor of Andhra Pradesh, was nominated to the Upper House. Mr Krishna, former Maharashtra Governor, got elected from the Karnataka Assembly as a candidate of the ruling Congress party. With Mr Rangarajan becoming a member of the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House now has three former RBI Governors, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Bimal Jalan.

SM Krishna hopeful of forming govt in Karnataka

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Kumaraswamy today said that return of Mr S M Krishna into state politics will not have any bearing on his party's performance in the coming Assembly elections."Mr Krishna's return will not have any adverse impact on JD(S) and it may boomerang Congress since there are difference of opinion on his return to the State Politics", Mr Kumaraswamy said. Talking to newsmen here, he said that, however, his party was concentrating on bridging the gap between urban and rural. "The main purpose of 'Jaitra Yatre' launched yesterday was to bridge gap between urban and rural and South and North Karnataka", he added.
